In 2001, Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church recognized a need within the community. That need was to supply food for the hungry families. With the help of 3 volunteers, Saint Matthew’s Food Bank was established. In 2005, the church determined that the food bank had grown to a capacity that needed to be independent from the church and become a secular organization.
Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank was formed and became a 501(c)(3) community based non-profit organization serving the working poor. From its humble beginnings of serving 800 people in its first year, Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank currently serves over 184,000 people in need each year, with the help and dedication of over 70 regular volunteers and 150 seasonal volunteers working to fulfill its mission.
