Matthew's Crossing

Meals To Grow is a weekly backpack meal program designed to help give children in need.

We do this two ways.

  1. Weekend Backpack Food Bags. Each bag has enough food for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners and a variety of snacks. Matthew's Crossing volunteers pack and deliver these meals to area schools each Wednesday and they are then distributed to students on Friday. Then the backpacks are returned to the school on the following Monday. Currently, Meals To Grow volunteers pack over 1200 backpack meals each week and deliver to over 14 area schools K-12.
  2. Weekday Food Closets. The food closets are located at local high schools and colleges. At the beginning of each week our volunteers deliver food and stock the shelves of to two high schools and one community college in the East Valley. This allows students to receive food assistance during the week.

“Our families have been so appreciative (of the food closet at our high school). The kids are in awe when they can come in and pick up a bag of groceries for their family. I hear comments like “my mom thought that cookie spread was amazing, my Dad loved the vinegar chips, it’s such a treat to have spaghetti”.  It’s such a blessing that we have Matthews Crossing Food Bank and all of you! Brenda is always so helpful and upbeat, love having her as our delivery gal! Thanks so much for including Hamilton High School in this wonderful outreach." ...Hamilton teacher
